About SBS Trailers

As an enthusiastic racing dinghy sailor our present managing director started out building G.P.14 and Enterprise dinghies from a lock up garage in 1957. From this followed the manufacture of the fittings in gunmetal, to such an extent that other builders started purchasing these items.

A company was formed in 1959 as Small Boat supplies and became a limited company in 1961. The main purpose at that time was the manufacture of dinghy fittings for the fast growing racing dinghy market.

This soon led to manufacturing a range launching trolleys and with the increasing popularity of the small trailable sailing cruiser an opening was seen in the trailer business and we were fortunate to be involved with the market leaders of the time, A.G. Hurley of Plymouth, Russel Marine of Southend and Blue Hulls of Blockley and made their trailers as original equipment.

SBS Trailers was formed to specialise in this market. Trailer production increased rapidly and from 90 a year in 1965 we are now making over 1000 units a year.

Trends have changed and from making mainly bespoke sailboat trailers we now have a production line making our range of Roadrunner Sportsboat trailers at the rate of 80 per week. In addition we make a range of marina trolleys, showroom dollies, cruiser launchers and commercial trailers.

Today we have over 20 employees and are expecting a move into a new 68000 square feet factory in 2004 to combine our trailer production with our Fletcher Sportsboat business, which we purchased from the receiver when Fletcher Products went into receivership in January 2003.

Our constant philosophy has been to provide the best product at the most competitive price using only the best components from the most respected sources.

We are constantly revising and updating our designs and components to make sure we have the latest technology and components incorporated in our products.

We now supply trailers to all the major sportsboat builders and importers and are preferred contractors to the MOD.
